4 STEPS TO GET GLOWING YOGA SKIN (WITHOUT THE YOGA!)
If you’re a regular yoga class attendee, you know how much more clear and bright your skin looks after consistent practice. Most of us are familiar with that post-yoga glow. Closely related to a post-gym glow, this look is defined by rosey cheeks, gleaming (probably sweaty) skin, and an overall fresh and juicy complexion. We all go into yoga with different intentions, but at the end of the day, we expect to leave with some feeling of inner peace and harmony. If you’re familiar with the saying happiness radiates from within, you’ll know where I’m going with this.
You want your skin to look like you’re fresh out of the best yoga session of your life. You just got a good work out, you’re feeling relieved of everyday stresses, maybe you even peacefully dozed off during shavasana! You sweat just enough for your skin to radiate a natural glow when the sun hits it, and even if you have a few blemishes here and there (hey, we all have imperfections) you still feel as confident as ever. And there you have it, the latest skincare trend: Yoga Skin.
Okay sometimes we don’t want to hit the yoga studio just to have a beaming complexion. For those of us whose skin needs a little extra support to keep bright and dewy, there are options! Here are my tips--skincare and makeup--for achieving the ultimate post-yoga glow (without the yoga).
Step 1: Moisturize, Moisturize, and...Moisturize
Be mindful of your application. It’s easy to slather on some moisturizer and call it a day. Think of your skincare like your makeup- you don’t just slap on your foundation. Rather, you spend time working it into the skin so it is beautifully blended. Next time you moisturize, massage it into the skin, this stimulates circulation and allows your skin to take in all the goodness of the all natural ingredients inside. Plus, it feels pretty amazing! To keep your skin's texture looking smooth and bright, use a moisturizer with gentle exfoliating properties, like AHA’s. This prevents any unwanted build up of dead skin cells while keeping skin moisturized and renewed.
Step 2: Self Care Staples: Tub Time
Grab your favorite crystals and stones, light a candle, toss in a small handful of Bath Salts and sink into deep relaxation mode. This is you time, where epsom salts work to relax and relieve your muscles while scents of citrus (or vanilla and incense, if that’s more your style) work to uplift your senses. Create your sense of inner peace by taking some time to care for your mind and body.
Step 3: Conceal Don’t Feel
On those days where I want flawless skin without the layers of makeup, concealer is my BFF. For a quick and seamless application, I simply use my finger to apply the product under my eyes and over any spots I would like to hide. The warmth of your hands helps effortlessly melt your makeup into your skin, making it appear more natural and radiant.
